Interviews with ill people and laboratory data show that Fresh Express packaged salads may be contaminated with Listeria and may be making people sick. Ten people infected with the outbreak strain of Listeria have been reported from eight states. Listeria Outbreak Linked to Packaged Salads Produced by Fresh Express The other outbreak is linked to packaged salads produced by Dole. Fresh Express voluntarily ceased production at their Streamwood, Illinois, facility and initiated a recall of certain varieties of its branded and private label salad products produced at the company’s Streamwood, Illinois, facility.For the very young, the elderly and the immune-compromised, listeriosis can result in death. If the more severe form of listeriosis develops, symptoms may include headache, stiff neck, confusion, loss of balance and convulsions. Most people with listeriosis include a fever, muscle aches, nausea, vomiting and diarrhea.
