Lenovo smart alarm clock10/31/2023 ![]() We only know this because the magnets even trick our MagSafe-equipped iPhone 13 Pro into thinking it’s on a MagSafe charging pad, playing the animation when we place our iPhone on the pad. There are some magnets inside the charging station that help hold your smartphone in place when it’s wirelessly charging. Outside of picking the color of the fabric that covers the display’s housing, the only other major purchasing decision related to the Smart Clock 2 is whether or not you want the charging station. The station adds $20 to the price of the setup, bringing the total to $89 for the Smart Clock 2 and the charging station. On the back of the station is a full-size USB port that you can use to connect a charger for your smartwatch. The station itself is rectangular, with a spot to place the Smart Clock 2 - complete with the connecting pogo pins and an LED light ring that goes around the bottom of the display - along with a wireless charging pad to the right of the screen. If we could change anything about the design of the Smart Clock 2 it would be to shrink down the large black bezels that surround the screen, letting the display flow into the housing. ![]() It looks like a smaller version of the Nest Hub and Lenovo’s Smart Display, and that’s a good thing. Lenovo added more color options and the option for the charge station but kept the fabric cover on the housing. The overall design changes from the original Smart Clock aren’t drastic. On the bottom of the clock is a set of pogo pins that are used to connect the display and provide power to the optional charging station. On the back of the Smart Clock 2 is the power port and a mute switch that turns off the always-listening microphone. It’s not the best-looking display when it comes to saturation and vivid colors, but it doesn’t have to be. We’re happy to report that we didn’t have to fiddle with its brightness settings during our testing - it automatically lowered its brightness as night approached but was still clearly readable from a few feet away. Instead, it’s how dim can the screen get while still being readable, but not something that keeps you up all night because it’s lighting up your room. The display is plenty bright, but that’s not what matters most as an alarm clock. The Smart Clock 2 measures 4.46 by 2.80 by 3.67 inches with a 4-inch touch-capable display and comes in three different color options: Heather Gray, Abyss Blue and Shadow Black. ![]() The best smart displays seem to only be getting bigger and smarter, with devices like the $250 Echo Show 10 and its 10-inch display that literally follows you around the room, or the 10-inch $229 Nest Hub Max with its large design. When we first opened the box that the Smart Clock 2 arrived in, we immediately found the display and marveled at just how small it is. The Google Nest Hub (which retails for $99 but is currently half off) has louder speakers and a bigger screen, while Lenovo’s standard $69 Smart Display 7 stands out with its great screen and design.Īn attractive design with a truly tiny display Because smart displays have traditionally been designed for users to watch camera feeds, stream videos or play games, you’ll be hard-pressed to find another device with a 4-inch display. How it compares: The $69 Smart Clock 2 has a more streamlined design compared to the original Smart Clock, which you can currently find heavily discounted. If you want to add some utility to the Lenovo Smart Clock 2, you can pay a little extra for a charging station that adds a wireless charging pad to keep your phone or earbuds charged while you sleep. The entire setup is small - with only a 4-inch display - so don’t expect to be able to read it clearly from across the room. What you need to know: The Lenovo Smart Clock 2 is a full-fledged smart display that uses Google Assistant for traffic reports, weather forecasts or streaming your Nest camera feed to your nightstand. Who this is for: The Lenovo Smart Clock 2 is for someone who prefers Google Assistant over Amazon’s Alexa platform and is looking for a new alarm clock that does more than sound an alarm at a set time. Easy creamy pasta salad10/31/2023 ![]() Drain it well before adding the other ingredients and tossing it with the dressing. Once you take it off the heat, drain it immediately and rinse with very cold water to stop any cooking. Cook it to al dente, so that it still has a bite to it. Season with salt and pepper, to taste, and stir to combine. STEP 4: Pour the creamy sauce over the pasta and veggies and fold it in, making sure the pasta is well-coated. You can really use just about any veggies you want in this Weight Watchers Pasta Salad Recipe – I just used what I traditionally knew as the most popular ingredients for it. But I had to keep some mayo to maintain the taste and texture, so I used my favorite mayonnaise alternative – Reduced Fat Vegenaise instead. Then, I subbed out most of the mayo for fat-free Greek yogurt. ![]() First of all, I used whole wheat pasta – that’s a no-brainer. My healthier version makes just a couple of changes to make it lighter and lower in Points, but still delicious. But the traditional version of this creamy summer pasta salad recipe is very heavy on mayo and sugar, making it pretty high in Weight Watchers Points, as well as cholesterol! Over the years, I’ve experienced a variety of pasta salads, but my favorite was always the creamy/sweet/tangy one. Growing up, they were at EVERY family bbq and I’ve grown accustomed to expecting them. Nothing says summer bbq to me like a good, old-fashioned pasta salad. Retroarch 3ds features10/31/2023 ![]() RetroArch uses “Playlists” to organize the game library, and it will allow you to add box art (“Thumbnails”) to every game as you scroll through, and you can also set favorites, which is very handy. Adding filters to your game image will smooth out pixel distortion for screens that don’t accurately match the original console you are emulating. Filters behave like shaders for your games, and can alter the screen to provide you a better visual experience. Shaders apply an overlay to your screen that can mimic scanlines, colorization, or other effects that will recreate CRT monitors, chunky LCD grid displays, and more. If you have certain preferences for your scaling (perfect pixel accuracy, or stretching out the image to take up the full screen), RA should have what you need. With RetroArch, you can adjust the game image to match your device’s dimensions and resolution, or even apply bezel overlays to customize the layout of your screen. With this method, you only have to remember hotkeys for one platform instead of different key mapping options across various emulators. You can also set up hotkeys for things like save states, loading save states, bringing up the RA menu, fast forward, etc. You can set your buttons for any RA core, and also save per-game settings and button remaps for the best experience. Here is a full core list so you can get an idea of all the emulation options within. You can find RetroArch on many systems, and it can also emulate a ton of systems too. For example, with RetroArch, you can unlock the following features: RetroArch features (click to enlarge) The answer is that RetroArch contains a lot of universal features that are not implemented in many of the other emulators. So you might be asking yourself, why should I bother with RetroArch, if I already have standalone emulator options that will play my games? That’s a fair question. Depending on the version of RetroArch you are using, you can pick and choose which cores to load, to be able to customize your experience, or the RetroArch build may come pre-loaded with all working cores. So in this guide I will use the words “emulators” and “cores” interchangeably. RetroArch consists of what they call “ cores“, which function as emulators embedded in the program. I have a habit of pronouncing it the latter way, which is what you’ll hear in my videos. Note that technically, “RetroArch” should be pronounced like “RetroARTCH” versus “RetroARK”, because it was first based on Arch Linux, but both pronunciations are considered acceptable. The frontend for RetroArch is often referred to as the “libretro frontend”. It can run on the usual platforms like Windows, MacOS and Linux, but it also runs on iOS and Android for tablets and phones, as well as on game consoles like PS2, PS3, PSP, PS Vita, Wii, Wii U, 2DS, 3DS, Switch, and more. RetroArch is a frontend for emulators, game engines and media players. ![]() However, if you are using a system that relies primarily on RetroArch for emulation (like Xbox), or you have a beefy PC that can run well regardless of optimizations, you may find success in emulating higher-end systems in RetroArch, too. For more modern consoles, it is often more efficient to rely on standalone emulators, which are generally more optimized than RetroArch. RetroArch really shines on retro systems, particularly PlayStation 1 and below games. The video will primarily be done on Windows PC, but the same method will apply to MacOS, Linux, Android, iOS, Vita, and Xbox platforms, and more. This guide is meant to help you get set up with various RetroArch iterations. In this guide I’m going to demystify some of the more peculiar things about this emulation frontend, and show you how I set up RetroArch on my own gaming platforms. But it does have quite a steep learning curve. RetroArch is one of my favorite programs to use for retro game emulation, because it can emulate many systems. Last updated: 28FEB2022 (see Changelog for details) Mg group number periodic table10/31/2023 ![]() Therefore the distinguishing electron must occupy either the 5 s or 5 p subshell. For example, iodine is a representative element in the fifth period. The value of n, the principal quantum number for the distinguishing electron, can be quickly determined by counting down from the top of the periodic table. As a general rule, in the case of the representative elements, the distinguishing electron will be in an ns or np subshell. In the third period the 3 s subshell is filling for Na and Mg, and therefore Al, Si, P, S, Cl, and Ar. Across the second period Li and Be have distinguishing electrons in the 2 s subshell, and electrons are being added to the 2 p subshell in the atoms from B to Ne. In the first period the distinguishing electrons for H and He are in the 1 s subshell. The first three horizontal rows or periods in the modern periodic table consist entirely of representative elements. Formulas for chlorides of the first dozen elements that show the periodic variation of valence Element This agrees with the valence rules derived from the periodic table, and results in formulas for chlorides of the first dozen elements that show the periodic variation of valence. For representative elements the number of valence electrons is the same as the periodic group number, and the number needed to match the next noble-gas configuration is 8 minus the group number. That is, the valences of the representative elements may be predicted on the basis of the number of valence electrons they have, or from the number of electrons that would have to be added in order to attain the same electron configuration as an atom of a noble gas. Many of the chemical properties of the representative elements can be explained on the basis of Lewis diagrams. Most of the elements whose chemistry and valence we have discussed so far fall into this category. The representative elements are those in which the distinguishing electron enter an s or p subshell. ![]() The type of subshell ( s, p, d, f)into which the distinguishing electron is placed is very closely related to the chemical behavior of an element and gives rise to the classification shown by the color-coding on the periodic table seen here. This last electron is called the distinguishing electron because it distinguishes an atom from the one immediately preceding it in the periodic table. Since it is the outermost (valence) electrons which are primarily involved in chemical interactions between atoms, the last electron added to an atom in the building-up process is of far more interest to a chemist than the first. That is, the Group 7A nonmetals form 1- charges, the Group 6A nonmetals form 2- charges, and the Group 5A metals form 3- charges. The commonly used long form of the periodic table is designed to emphasize electron configurations. The nonmetals gain electrons until they have the same number of electrons as the nearest noble gas (Group 8A), forming negatively charged anions which have charges that are the group number minus eight.
